It's hard to believe that this stunning granite structure was a prison for some 120 years. After nearly a decade of painstaking renovations and restoration, the Liberty Hotel is a masterpiece that commands sweeping views of Beacon Hill and the Back Bay. Preservationists left the wrought iron bars on the ocular windows, and even rebuilt the historic cupola and catwalks. The rooms include ebony wood accents that complement hues of maroon, gray and purple. Doing time was never this much fun.
